The blooming peachtrees of Veria

During my childhood, we used to often go on family road trips to Thessaloniki, and each time I remember my dad saying… now we have arrived at Veria, our Greek California!”

Shortly the blooming season in Veria‘s lowlands comes to an end… Where the wonderful pink buds began to sprout, fruits will soon show up, filling the trees with peaches of exceptional quality. From the end of May, fruits of the region will be arriving at every corner of Greece while at the same time different varieties will travel abroad, both fresh and stewed in cans.

The traditional custom with cherry blossoms (Sakura) in Japan, known worldwide as Hanami, inspired local stakeholders to internationally promote its respective Greek version. Through this effort, potential prospects of tourist development are being explored so that this “pink paradise” phenomenon becomes the core of new visitors, providing an additional attractive motive in combination with other sights of the surrounding area (Vermio mountain, Aliakmonas river, Vergina archaeological site, Byzantine churches, Naoussa’s wineries, etc).

Several outdoor activities are taking place during these days, but unfortunately all of them have been postponed due to covid-19. Nevertheless, keep the idea to organize an excursion next year! It is definitely a great opportunity to enjoy the colors of nature and spring, while cycling on pathways across fields and loading your photo collection with unique pictures of authentic beauty in a rural landscape.
