International Mountains Day

Wish everyone would respect and look after the mountains like their own home!

This year 2020, special importance is given to the protection of biodiversity offered by the mountains. Many human activities (change of land use, poaching, logging, and many more) contribute to ecosystem degradation which in turn accelerates climate change. The adoption of sustainable practices is necessary if we really wish for this planet to have a FUTURE!

Five reasons mountains matter (according to Food Agriculture Organization):

  1. Provide a home for almost 1 billion people.
  2. Host 25% of the biodiversity on land.
  3. Provide 6 of the 20 most important food crops .
  4. Host 28% of the earth’s forests.
  5. Provide between 60-80& of the world’s freshwater.
